February was a crazy month. A few weeks after Tessa split her head open we were back in the hospital. Apparently Tessa was so traumatized by what had happened it affected her bowel movements. She was so constipated she hadn't pooped for 3 weeks. We took her to the pediatrician because she seemed to be sick. She would hardly move and acted very tired and weak. She would lay on the couch all day or fall asleep on me, which never happens, so finally I took her in. She never had a fever so I didn't think much of it. They checked her ears and throat and tested her for strep. It came back positive so we got her on an antibiotic for that. After a few days she still seemed to be very lethargic and weak wasn't eating much and was constintly throwing up. So we took her back in to her pediatrician and told them about her not having any bowel movements and that she was still throwing up. They of course wanted me to try a laxative and if that didn't work to come back in. Well it didn't. It just gave her the farts and made her bloated. So we took her back in and they told us to try a "more powerful laxative." so we did and nothing happened. We took her back in on a Monday and the Dr. admitted her to the hospital. So we headed over to Utah Valley and got her checked in. This experience just reiterates why I hate that hospital. Here's how things were suppose to go according to the Resident there and Tessa's pediatrician. X-ray the abdomen, start an IV, give her a mineral oil enema, wait four hours and give her a saline enema. OK here's how it went....We got admitted to the hospital about 4:30 pm. shift change is at 6:00pm. Orders were given at 5:00 pm. at 10:00 pm the nurses came in to give her AN ENEMA! the last thing that's suppose to happen. We told them that wasn't right and that she hasn't even had an xray. 2 hours later they brought in the xray machine and took a picture. We waited for the resident to see the xray before giving her an IV. We demanded an xray to make sure she didn't have a blockage or kink in her intestines. everything looked good on the xray (lots of poop) so they started her IV. Of course we have to hold Tessa down for this and it broke my heart. Tessa was already exhausted and its the middle of the night so shes very unhappy. The first nurse didn't get the vein, at that very moment Jesse, his mother Becky and I all told her to get someone that will get it the first time and to not try again. It was torture for Tessa and we weren't about to let her stick her again. So they got a REAL nurse in there that was experienced and got it no problem. After that we went back to her room and waited for more "Orders" from the Resident. The nurses came back in after about an hour and gave her mineral oil orally! What the? we told them NO, its suppose to be an enema. She fought with us about it and we told her to talk to the resident again(who also switched shifts on us) and she said this is what was ordered. Whatever! So Tessa took it and they said we wont see anything happen for about 8 HOURS again What the???? Jesse and I are so frustrated by this point we decided to sleep for a few hours and calm down. The next morning the first Resident and her Pediatrician came in. Heres what they said "We made a mistake" Uh ya think. He said they gave the right orders but for some reason the next resident that came in on the shift change, changed them. They told us they weren't suppose to give her the Mineral Oil orally, but rectally. Which is what we were trying to tell the nurses all night. Anyway they finally gave her a Mineral oil enema, nothing happened. So 4 hours later they wanted to do another one. By this point I had been praying my heart out and just begging the Lord to guide me on what to do. I felt so strong about having them change to a Saline enema. The Resident(the good one) listened to me and agreed to try it. 15 minutes later, Softball sized poop was finally coming out!! Finally!!! It kept coming and coming, we were so grateful. Because so much came out we were able to go home! But not before we talked to the floor manager about the extra 8 hours we didn't need to spend there because of their mistakes. After talking to about 6 different people they didn't charge us for that time in the hospital! Good thing. I know I can do Enemas at home but with how dehydrated Tessa was we needed to make sure she was on an IV and get her xrayed just to be sure! We finally get Tessa home and after a few days she is back to normal....well almost. The poop stopped again. The Dr kept telling me to keep her on Miralax, which apparently they tell everyone to put their kids on it if they are constipated. This is so not ok in my opinion. Its a man made chemical that is horrible for the liver, not to mention the body because dependent on it. I was so frustrated and exhausted and felt like the worst mother in the world for taking Tessa in soooooo many times, I said forget it! I kept praying for guidance on what to do. I took her an alternative health dr who was the only one who helped Tessa when she had Colic. He gave her Ficus and Aloe Vera which were all natural. Worked like a charm!!!! The aloe vera was awesome, I gave her a 1/3 what he told me to give her and it worked so great!!! My Mother in law also got me addicted to Essential Oils. We have been using them on Tessa for a couple of weeks now and they are keeping her right on track!!! So regular its amazing!!! I am so grateful we finally found something that works and I am so happy its all natural! To me its just the better way to go!! Tessa was a champ through all of this! I hope we never have to go through this again. Here are some pictures of Tessa in the Hospital.
Blowing bubbles was the only thing that made her happy!
